Sharon,
I'm just catching up on podcasts and was listening to you rambling. About your sweater issue: there is historical evidence that sweaters were always made in the round. The pattern companies started publishing the pieces for their convenience, not the knitters. So, if you don't like sewing the pieces together, you're in good company. As far as a favorite pattern...it depends on whether you want to knit from the bottom up or the top down. Either Elizabeth Zimmerman or Barbara Walker has good reference books.
The next thing I'd like to suggest is that lace blocking can be thought of like your bag felting - the final step to make the knitting look like what it's supposed to look like. The anticipation is about the same, the process is almost the same. Can you see what I'm thinking here? Besides, as you shape your bag, aren't you blocking it?
Wonderful podcast, keep up the great job!
